Life in 2023. What to do about AI, Zombies, and Deep Fakes?
Back to the drawing board, gathering inspiration from the now.

Being Here Now
Hey all,
Boy, that first month of 2023 went fast. It’s been too long since I wrote you — I’m sorry. I’ve had a lot going on. My family moved in December to a new location on the border of Moorpark and Thousand Oaks, California in December. We’ve been getting settled in, and working hard to prepare a space to operate our Behere Outdoor enrichment programs, supporting local homeschoolers. Living in a tiny home with my family of five and getting outside to work the land has left me without much time to Art for a period of time. Yesterday, we had our first enrichment session at our new location, and it was quite rewarding to see all our hard work pay off with the enjoyment of all our precious young students. Enjoy a few photos from yesterday’s session!
Some brief thoughts on AI
As a creative person seeking insights on what the future of work will look like, both for myself and our future generations — I have done some exploring into the capabilities of Artificial Intelligence the past few months, and it definitely appears to be the year that AI is coming on strong. AI is getting scary good at a lot of things, including image-making. As an artist, I have explored it to understand how I might use it for my own benefit, and what I might lean into further, that I don’t believe AI will be good at. With AI being pretty great at writing articles and imitating artists like Andy Warhol, Basquiat, Monet, Van Gough, and so many other classics — It really brings into question where the human artist can best bring his or her value. When I think about what I want to bring to the table during these wildly insane days on earth, when it is nearly impossible to tell what is real and what is not anymore — I yearn to bring people a sense of nostalgic enjoyment with my artwork and creativity. It feels right for me to focus on that at this time. For me, my absolute favorite comic growing up was Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson. I dare say — I do not believe AI to be capable of creating lovable comics with wit, wisdom, and humor with such a human touch. So I hope to be spending more time using my head, hand, and heart to connect with you all in a way that can offer a dose of humanity in a world full of illusions.
Seeking publications and clients illustrate for!
I am looking for new clients to provide my professional illustration services. Know any publications I should reach out to? Call me crazy, but I believe we can end the woke mind virus with great cartoons and memes. And I do believe we have an exciting world ahead of us where individuals can increasingly benefit from their own creativity, without need to fit into a corporate mold. Certainly, I do not fit the mold, and my every impulse is to break molds on this corrupted planet that is going through intense changes. I believe great cartoons can help guide us through these changes. 🙏 I appreciate any intro’s or connections! ⚡️🤙
Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed today’s cartoon : )
